The publishing house was founded in 1949 on 1 June, the International Children’s Day , on the advice of the Soviet Military Administration in Germany (SMAD) by the party executive of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in East Berlin and subordinated to the pioneering organization founded in the year before Ernst Thalmann . The owner remained, however, without the employees knew about the SED.
